Our functions and decisions map outlines how the different parts of the Health and Care Partnership will work together and take decisions. Residents are at the centre of all our work.

How the system will work: Functions and decisions July 2022 Box 1 - Setting the strategy where you live: Health and Wellbeing Boards (A board for each of our places: Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes. The Boards agree the health and wellbeing strategy for each place. In MK this is called the MK Health and Care Partnership). Strategy feeds into place plans Box 2 - Delivering services in the place you live: Place-based Partnerships (Each of our four places has a Place-Based Partnership. In Bedford and Milton Keynes this function is delivered by the Health and Wellbeing Board. They agree an annual place plan to deliver the system and place strategies, based on local priorities). Box 3 - Turning local needs into a system strategy: Bedfordshire Luton and Milton Keynes Helath and Care Partnership (Agrees five-year population health strategy. This builds on the health and wellbeing strategies from each of our four places). Strategy feeds into place plans Box 4 - Delivering plans from the system: Integrated Care Board (ICB) (Agrees delivery plans and arranges service provision. Responsible for statutory functions such as data, digital, workforce, finances, quality, performance, safeguarding, assurance and audit). Communications and assurance Box 5 - Delivering services in your neighbourhood: Primary Care Networks (General Practices working with health, care and voluntary sector partners to provide co-ordinated care to residents). Box 6 - Delivering services across a wider area: Providing Collaborative (NHS Trusts and other providers working together to plan and deliver specific services across a wider geography than place. Includes: East of England Specialised Mental Health Collaborative & Bedfordshire Care Alliance. Box 7 - Providing assurance and oversight: ICB Committees (Provide assurance about specific ICB functions, such as quality and performance, finance, audit, primary care, working with people and communities. A Health and Care Senate ensures that the health and care professional voice is heard at every level of decision-making).

For more information see our Governance Handbook.

As an ICB we want to get better at setting out the decisions that the Board will be asked to consider. That’s why we’ve published our new Decision Planner which shows the big issues the Board will be considering over the next year.
