NHS Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board’s IFR Policy and Process sets out the principles of an IFR and how NHS Clinicians can apply for funding if their patient meets the IFR Policy criteria.

The Clinician requesting the IFR should be the clinician providing the care to the patient in connection with the IFR application.

If a patient is in hospital, the clinician is able to request an IFR directly via Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes ICB’s secure database system. The requesting clinician is required to demonstrate on the IFR application form why their patient has clinically exceptional circumstances, the expected outcomes of the treatment and why they consider the treatment is a good use of NHS resources.
